add nodejs 22, 24 and 26 for build tests (on linux, mac, windows)
default nodejs 24 for all other tests (unit, integration)
The matrix job now runs npm run test:unit across ubuntu, macOS and Windows on Node 22, 24 and 26. The build-only matrix job is gone. The test script still compiles the sources through its pretest step, so a TypeScript breakage is still caught on every cell.
The old single-platform test job is removed, since the matrix covers it.
Cache keys are now uniform: -node-npm-. The lint job uses the fixed node24 segment, so it shares its cache with the ubuntu/24 test cell. The stray lint prefix on the old test job and the redundant cache-name env indirection are gone.
publish-npm now depends on lint and test. It previously depended on build, which no longer exists. The publish job still runs its own npm run build before publishing, so a broken bundle still blocks a release. Adding lint as a gate is a small tightening compared to before; drop it from needs if you want tags to publish even with lint failures.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Chores
Updated project automation to run linting, tests, and publishing with Node.js 24 instead of Node.js 22.
Expanded build checks to include Node.js 26 while retaining coverage for Node.js 22 and 24. These changes affect project maintenance and validation workflows; no product features or user-facing behavior are noted in this update.

Summary
CI job version configuration .github/workflows/ci.yml
Lint, test, and publish jobs now use Node.js 24. The build matrix adds Node.js 26 and retains Node.js 22 and 24. The production publish token assignment is unchanged.
The version updates are mergeable with bounded follow-up: retaining unit tests on Node.js 22 would preserve compatibility coverage alongside the new Node.js 24 default.

The test job now runs npm run test:unit only on Node.js 24. Before this change, it also ran on Node.js 22. Node.js 22 remains declared in .nvmrc and in the build matrix, but no workflow runs unit tests on it now. A Node.js 22-specific runtime difference in unit-tested code can pass CI. Node.js 26 has build coverage only.

Review comment at @.github/workflows/ci.yml at line 70:
Update the test job’s Node.js configuration so it runs the unit tests on both
Node.js 22 and 24, using the job’s matrix to select the version in the
setup-node step. Keep Node.js 26 build-only.

Overall risk: medium
Summary:
The PR updates the default Node.js version to 24 across the CI workflow and .nvmrc, and proactively adds Node 26 to the testing matrix. However, it completely removes the build job and the npm run build command, which poses a medium risk of breaking artifact generation if the project requires a compilation step before publishing.
Comments:
• [WARNING][bug] The dedicated build job and the npm run build command have been entirely removed. The workflow now only runs npm ci followed by npm run test:unit. If this repository requires compilation (e.g., TypeScript or a bundler), failing to run the build step may result in publishing an uncompiled package. Ensure that building is either handled in npm lifecycle scripts (like prepublishOnly) or restore the build step.
• [INFO][style] Excellent proactive change expanding the matrix to include Node 26 (['22', '24', '26']) to ensure forward compatibility.
• [INFO][style] The publish-npm job correctly updates its dependencies to needs: [lint, test] reflecting the removal of the build job, and successfully pivots the publish environment to Node 24.
• [INFO][style] LGTM! Keeping .nvmrc in sync with the primary CI Node version (24) is a great best practice.
