SAF import page: upload progress indicator and prevent users from accidentally clicking the import button multiple times. #6110

Closed as duplicate

Description

@bram-atmire

Describe the bug

When you are uploading a large SAF file to be imported, the UI doesn't give you immediate feedback that the upload is ongoing, other than the standard browser specific spinner usually on the top of the browser tab.

This can lead a user to click the import button multiple times

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Start an SAF import from the UI
  2. Check for a progress indicator or something that blocks you from initiating your action again.

Expected behavior

A user shouldn't be able to push the button again while an upload is ongoing.
Ideally, a user should be informed of the progress.

Might be a duplicate!!!

I could swear an issue like this was already reported/already existed (that I was possibly even involved in myself), but I searched and I couldn't find it anymore.

    Hi @bram-atmire! To your point about possibly being a duplicate, it does look like this is covered by the parts of DSpace/DSpace#12351 that reference no progress indicator. However, you also mentioned the idea of opening a separate issue to address the UX gap (comment) and there was some support voiced for those UI improvements.

    So, I think if you'd rather this progress indicator improvement is treated separately, that works but then we should remove that as a requirement from the other ticket, and possible add more details here based on your previous comments. If not, we can close this one out. Let me know if you have a preference!

    Hi @bram-atmire, going to close this out for now based on the comment above - but we can always reopen this if you want to go the second route! Thanks.
