gemini sandbox throws error when logging in with google

On MacBook Air with Tahoe

Steps

1. sbx run gemini-sandbox
2. Click 'Sign in with Google' ( This screen shows shows "Existing API key detected (GEMINI_API_KEY). Select "Gemini API Key" option to use it. ")

I see the following error.
ERROR: agent exited with code 199

how can I address this? Or this is a bug ?

This must be a bug in either sbx setting up the sandbox incorrectly or in Gemini CLI.

I was able to fix this by running sbx exec -it gemini-<proj name> bash and then in that shell chmod +w ~/.gemini/settings.json.

To figure this out: there's an error message that flickers on screen just before the sandbox exist. I used a screen recording to capture that, which showed there's a permission error, then asking Gemini + some manual debugging allowed me to fix it.
